Here’s another hidden gem. Tucked away on 101 Portland off
of Toronto’s king street west strip, Gusto 101 is a hotspot for hipsters
craving for some yummy Italian food. Design team, Munge Leung, managed to
create a wonderful showcase out of the once old dingy auto garage. Maintaining its originality, Alessandro Munge has managed to
create a beautiful restaurant with an industrial theme. Once inside, you’ll be awed
by open concept with two-storey high ceilings. The design team keeps the origin
of the building in mind by using industrial-style lighting fixtures and old license
plates hanging on a wooden beam. We previously mentioned the restaurant
industry is starting to use more open kitchens; Munge Leung utilizes the open
kitchen concept to show off the restaurant’s centerpiece - a Tuscan-style
wood-fire grill.
Although the wait list can be long on the weekends (they
don’t take reservations after 6pm unless it’s a group of 13+), the wait is well
worth it! Gusto offers reasonably-priced selection and tops it off with red or
white wine on tap for as low as $1 per ounce. You
definitely can’t go wrong with good food and wine!
Our top menu recommendations:
Fettuccine ai Funghi Paste
Portobello, porcini, oyster
mushrooms, truffle paste, light cream sauce
Margherita Pizza
Tomato, mozzarella, basil
10-oz Bistecca
Certified angus striploin,
grilled cremini mushrooms, roasted potatoes, rosemary,
chipotle sauce
Pollo al Mattone
Moroccan spiced chicken,
caramelized cipollini onions, prosciutto, roasted potatoes,
rosemary, red wine reduction
If you haven’t hit up this joint yet, then you definitely must
try it out! It’s absolutely delish and you definitely want to make reservations
soon before they’re all taken!
