Tip of the Day Tuesday/ Gallery Wall

This week we are adding the finishing design touches to a condo in Toronto. We are planning to create a spectacular focal point for this space by putting together a picture gallery wall.

Here’s a few tips from AOD on how create the perfect gallery wall in your own space.

There are a few selections of styles that you can choose from when creating the perfect feature wall. You can go from simple with a perfectly symmetrical display or more complex by incorporating varying frame sizes. Choose a style that reflects your design sensibility and suites the space you are working within.

Here are some of AOD’s top fav walls!

Designer Tip: Be sure to have a test run before nailing anything into your walls. You want to be able to see how each and every individual piece of art will relate to one another.

Here’s a trick to do before hanging up any artwork on the wall.

Creating a Paper Frame template:

1.     Start by tracing all your frames on kraft paper. Then label the frame and corresponding paper frame with a number.
2.     Cutout the kraft-paper frames (these are your frames but in paper format).

When taping the paper frames on the wall, use Painters’ Masking Tape. This way it won’t damage the paint on the walls!

3.     Arrange your paper frames on the wall directly above your key piece of furniture (or at eye height) and continue to move up and out from that point.
4. Take a step back and review your arrangement. Keep arranging and rearranging until you is satisfied with the placement.

Once you have your frame placement down you can change up the images in your frames for a new look at anytime. It’s worth the time to get the placement right!

Give it a try – it’s easier then it looks!
