Tip of the Day Tuesday/ Neutral Tones

This week, we decided to slow it down a bit and look into creating a zen-like palette for the home. If you’re not the type to use bold colours or patterns then we have some great tips for you.  Here’s how to create a simple yet elegant neutral palette:

Colour
Choose a base colour to build around. Some of our favorites are creamy white (white down CC-50) – Neutral beige (Rocky road CC-470) – soft yellow (lemon chiffon OC-109) and soft gray (Silver half dollar 2121-40). All paints from Benjamin Moore.

Layer & Texture
Bring in texture and pattern throughout the space to add excitement and depth. Use pillows, throws, or an area rug and mix and match textures like stripes, a small thatch or herringbone.

Designer Tip: for a casual yet elegant feel incorporate linen – especially looks fabulous on drapery applications.

Accents & Sparkle
Afraid that all the neutral tones might be a bit boring? Add a bit of colour and sparkle: light pastels such as soft pink or light blue go really well with neutral tones. Sparkle can be anything from glass accents to metal shine.

Designer Tip: Gold’s are great with warmer tones and silvers perfect for cool pallets. In an all white space try black anodized metal or oil rubbed bronze for a great accent.

A neutral colour palette will also stand the test of time and it is easy to change it up with small accents if you should want to spice it up
