Tip of the Day Tuesday: Kitchen Update

Welcome back to the Tip of the Day Tuesday!

For this week, we’ll let you have a sneak peek at what we’ve been designing. One of our clients wanted to update his kitchen without blowing his budget. We thought that open shelving would be a fantastic way to update his space. Open shelving can create a modern look that integrates the kitchen area into the living space. And, in a small condo it does just the trick for entertaining and updating the space without a complete kitchen reno.

Using everyday dishes, decorative serving ware, interesting collections, and artwork you can create a pleasing display case in your own kitchen. If you’re the creative type, you can easily refresh the displayed items and have a new focal point in your space. If you want to set it up just once, we’ve got some fantastic inspiration to get you started.

Here are our must have items to create the look:
  1. Decorative Dishes
  2. Glasses, Cups, Jugs, and Teapots
  3. Serveware
  4. Mason Jars to house your Herbs, Spices and other Condiments
  5. Artwork/Sculptures
  6. Collectibles

Here are a few tips on how to style your open shelves:
  1. Keep it organized! It’s really important to be organized and avoid clutter & mess.
  2. Balance is essential: Group small items and big components all together. By mixing it up, the accessories will create balance within your showcase.
  3. Repetition is key to stylish decorating. Repeat colours, shapes, and themes in several areas throughout the display.
  4. Group colours together. Be sure to keep it visually balanced. We recommend 1 focal colour or 1 colour in different shades.
  5. Add lighting: Appropriate lighting can make a big difference. It can really make the items on your display shelves sparkle and gleam! We recommend halogen pot lights or a great focal pendant.

In a nut shell here’s why we love open shelving in the kitchen:
  1. It’s a more affordable option and it makes your kitchen feel bright and open.
  2. It’s an easy and quick kitchen update.
  3. It’s a chic way to showcase your kitchenware and collectibles.
We promise your new display won’t be missed at your next cocktail party!
